I guess this is a good place to access the beach along this coast, and there is a nice National Trust (reliable but pricy) cafe. Most interesting part is the visitor centre with lots of info about the geology, flora/fauna and history of the area.

We arrived on a bright sunny but windy day. The Eastbourne sightseeing bus allows people to hop on and off and we stayed an hour. There is a National trust tea room and a small museum which is interesting. A staircase leads down to the beach and the views are spectacular.

The countryside and the views from the steps to the beach are what makes Birling Gap unique. The ships sailing into Newhaven can be clearly scene. The views towards Brighton on a clear night can be inspiring. And on that same clear night the stars stand out quite clearly.
Good surfing can be made here and the body boarding is good, however the rocks can be treachorous if care is not taken.

Fascinating place to visit and decent cafe and shop, national trust. Views great, how long it will all be there though, who knows?

I love the severity of Birling Gap. Not the highest cliff by a long way but the almost constant wind and the sea eating away the cliff serve to remind us that nature rules.
Only a few houses left now.
I always stop on this beautiful piece of road to have a peek.

If it's sunny day in summer, you will enjoy staying in this place!! When it's low tide you can go down the stone beach. The car parking was packed in afternoon... Better bring the sandals/water shoes for kids.

Went here with a group of friends who had a great time on the beach which at the time was fairly busy and it was a spring like day (yes in August!)

Parking is National Trust but there were so many people parked on the verges as well

They were all fascinated by the history of the place and the erosion with the loss of the houses and other property - you must visit the National Trust Information area which shows you where it will all be in 30 and 40 years - unbelievable

A great day out to a lovely clean area and then a cream team at the Restuarant, which is very good and reasonably priced

Recommended whilst it is still here!!

Enjoy

This is a truly stunning place. Coming from Sweden, we had no idea we could find these kind of cliffs here.

Our kids enjoyed it a lot (4 and 7 years old). We went down and looked for shells on the beach and investigated rock pools in the low tide. We also took a walk to the lighthouse, which I can recommend to parents with kids of similar age. It took about 20-30 minutes each way and it provided opportunities for the kids to run and play and for the adults to enjoy the views.

We had heard that it would be possible to have ice cream in the lighthouse, but that turned out to be close. So make sure not to promise your kids that...

We got there , when a thick sea fog had enshrouded this place of natural beauty. However the viewing platform helped us to see the 7 sisters & manages a short walk along the shaw line.
However , Thanks to the lovely National Trust Cafe' sheltered us from the thick Fog. The staff were very friendly and very helpful .
I need to say that the small informative Museum next to the Shop & Cafe', was very interesting - Thanks Nationsl Trust.

Very tasty and a good cup of tea and delicious scones. It was very busy...a bank holiday Sunday 😱 yet, the service was efficient and not to forget, there was humour amongst all the havoc

The Birling Gap offers some great views of the famous chalk cliffs, as well as providing easy access to the beach below.

Being on the beach looking up at the sheer face of the cliffs really makes you realise how big they are, and how vulnerable you are stood beneath them! There's evidence of severe erosion everywhere you look; from exposed pipework in the cliff face, to fences leading over the edge.

Some lovely walks along the pebble beach and although we swim, the water quality is supposed to be excellent.

Never having been here probably we weren't prepared for the long walks, shingle / rock beach & steep climbs. However, along with the spectacular views, they just made the trip the more pleasurable. Somewhat a sense of satisfaction having "done it". A lovely part of the coastline & we promised ourselves we'd be back.

The wind was just about gale force and it was difficult to stand. We did not go along the cliffs, but from the viewing platform went onto the beach. The view is breathtaking, intrinsically British - those iconic white cliffs, the blue sky, seaspray from crashing waves. Well worth the short drive from where we were staying in Rottingdean. It would be lovely to picnic here in better weather!

Nothing quite like it on a bright and blowy day to clear out the tubes and enjoy a bit of exercise in a stunning coastal location.

A great place to visit for body boarding, swimming and sunbathing. There are toilets, a cafe and bar located on the cliff above the beach. Alternatively, this is a good base to start a walk over the seven sisters.
Ample parking for which there is a charge but I think if you are a National Trust member you may not need to pay.

Jurassic coast with a lovely beach to relax, great cafe at the top with good information, steep metal steps down to the beach hold tight, had some good fossils here.

Beachy Head and Belle Tout Lighthouse are fantastic but found Birling Gap overcrowded and just a bit grubby.....I've lived in Eastbourne for 15 years and only every driven past.....in future I'll probably just continue to drive past and stop at Beachy Head instead.

This is nice place to visit for its walks over the Downs, the views over the Channel, not too far from Beachy head, and good parking and very nice Tea house serving meals and drinks.

Parked in the overflow park, happy to give the £2.50 to National Trust and walked from Birling Gap to Beachy head, past Belle Tout lighthouse. Exhilarating walk with excellent views. Stopped at the NT cafe after the walk and had the best chesses scones ever!

south downs nature park has few different walks to follow, we went on the one to the beach, very nice although we felt there could be more benches for people to sit and enjoy or watch the many egrets and other seabirds .

Very popular Nat Trust attraction. Good access and extensive parking (free for N T members ) excellent cafe, toilets and visitor centre with interesting information on the area. Not particularly easy for those with challenged mobility to explore the area as the options are a steep flight of steps to the beach or steep climbs to explore the surrounds.
However the beach is excellent for families and the walks up onto Beachy Head via the former Belle Tout lighthouse offer great views of the Seven Sisters and surrounding countryside. A bit worrying to see families sitting directly under the notoriously crumbly cliffs despite the posted warnings. A great place to visit and I will be back.
