Walked passed Birling Gap on my first day of the South Downs Way. Very attractive place to visit and relax.

We went here on a sunny Sunday lunchtime. The car park and overflow car parks were quite busy but we found somewhere to park fine. We took a picnic and headed off on the walk from Birling Gap towards Beachy Head and back. The views were incredible along the way and it was good to see the Belle Tout lighthouse and also the lighthouse in the sea at Beachy Head. When we got back to Birling Gap we headed to the beach where it wasn't too busy and the children enjoyed going for a paddle. The information centre is interesting, the only negative is the cafe and ice cream van are quite expensive. Will definitely return.

Just really beautiful and a bit overwhelming. On the beach you feel small and on top of the cliffs like a king. With small children know that aren't any fences :-).

Lots of people there on Sunday afternoon - toilets disgusting - they need more frequent cleaning visits

Accessible from the Beachy Head Road, the Birling Gap NT site offers easy access to the Seven Sisters, there's a cafeteria, toilets, steps down to the beach - everything for a good day out.

If ever you needed reminding of the power of the sea and costal erosion then you must visit the Birling Gap. The piece of land you stand on today may not be there tomorrow! Good information centre.

Took the open top bus from Eastbourne to Beachy Head and walked from then on to Birling Gap. Very picturesque; pebbles a bit hard to sit on but worth the view. Ice cream van a bit pricey - paid £4.00 for small bottle of water and orange lolly. Bus arrived to take us back to Eastbourne as per timetable and on time. Worth a visit come rain or shine as such a beautiful spot.

This is a lovely place to stop for a coffee and watch the world go by as well as being able to go down onto the beach and do many walks. The bus is handy if you'd like to walk one way and bus the other.

You can catch a bus from here back to Brighton or Eastbourne but leave plenty of time otherwise you may well miss your train as we did. The buses stop every hour , at 45 minutes past the hour to Eastbourne and at 49 minutes to Brighton, however on the day we were there ( a busy sunny day) we saw four buses that were delayed. Having seen an Eatbourne bus roll up at 16.15 we were very confused and waited at the bus stop from 17.00. This was very annoying as it was so nice on the beach. The bus eventually turned up after 18:00 and didn’t leave (because of the amount of people ) till after 18:10). The bus then stopped for another ten minutes at another stop where a lot of people got on because no one could organise buggies, a school trip of kids, and folding seats, meant for buggies. So needless to say we missed our 18:36 train back to London from Eatbourne and had to pay for more tickets. So if you have to be somewhere please account for the amount of people who will be getting on and buying tickets on the bus. I reckon the school children and the business of the sunny day was the perfect storm. Also there’s a text service to get real time updates but there was no signal on the 3 network.

Apart from that I would say this is one of the UK’s best beaches simply for the for the great view of the cliffs. Some people were swimming , snorkeling, boarding, don’t know why there weren’t more as it’s a good spot on a nice day.

Such a unique place and so welcome after walking the seven sisters. Very good range of food and drink, a shop, information area, and very clean toilets. Excellent National Trust as we have come to expect.

Beautiful place to visit the beach, the cliffs and enjoy a quick bite in the cafe. You can also visit the National Trust shop and exhibition. I was amazed how quick the erosion is. In 20 years time the shop may be gone.

Great views and you can get to the beach here; the only point you can on the seven sisters. There is a good cafe at Birling gap and visitor center and shop too.

Called in at the Birling Gap for tea break. There is a large coach and car park a gift shop and cafe, There are some quaint looking Coastguard cottages left on the cliff edge others I am told ended up in the sea, a terrific view of the Seven Sisters can be viewed from here and the Belle Tout Lighthouse that was lifted and moved inland a few years ago, what an achievement it's hard to believe when you see the size of it.

Perfect point to start a walk across the cliffs.Good facilities including loos, coffee shop, gift shop and information centre. Access to beach via stairs (not for the fainthearted or vertiginous. Was an extremely windy day when we visited (on shore thankfully) which added a different dimension! The walk across to Beachy Head is not as demanding as it first appears so don't be put off. Oddly walking down hill into the wind was harder work. Yes it really was that windy! Spectacular views. Really glad we made the effort.

Rainy weather but made the sky even more interesting. Seven sisters, beachy head, amazing scenery and walks. Good NT Cafe and shop too. Ice cream van and toilets. Free parking for NT members. Son had recommended we visit and we were glad we took his advice!

A really interesting area which needed much more time than the hour we had available. The history of the RAF presence during the Second World War was a particular revelation.

We have been visiting Birling Gap for more years than we care to admit having visited on our Honeymoon, when the facilities were somewhat dubious. The makeover by the National Trust has revitalised it and made it a place to go.

After a walk on the Downs (why do some young people think they are immortal sitting on the edge of the cliff, with legs dangling over for photos when the evidence of cliff fall is all around them?) we repaired to the NT cafe. We ordered a pot of tea for two and flapjacks which were fine, and sat at a table I the conservatory area where we shared a table with two other Casual visitors and had a good chat.

After using the facilities, with sadly one toilet blocked, but we reported it and a member of staff reported it straight away.

The car park was full so we parked in the first of the two extension car parks, the surface of which leaves much to be desired - it must be a mud bath in the rain and as very bouncy to drive across. As NT members parking was free, but I would not be happy paying at the pay and display with a surface like that to negotiate. The staff are very friendly and the lunches looked quite good as did the cakes and scones with clotted cream and jam.

A tranquil place to visit on a quiet day. It gets busy with lots of tourists on the sunnier days but at none peak times can be such a great hideaway place. Breathtaking views and some interesting history in the national trust building.

All along this stretch of the coast is stunningly beautiful, but Birling Gap is exceptional because you can get down to the sea here, parking can be hard because it is such an attraction. If your in the area don't miss out on this

The effect of coastal erosion is writ large here with stark pictures of how the Gap has fell into the sea over the decades. The National Trust have done a good job of presenting this thought provoking reality
