A must visit place - eroded cliffs, a viewing platform and stairs to beach. The visitors centre is really interesting with lots of subjects covered including flora & fauna and the RAF in WW2

Great place to get the cobwebs out of the old lungs. In winter it's extremely windy but well worth the effort to wrap up and give it a go. Great for walking the dogs or kids.

Good location and places to walk, café is welcome
Attention needs to be paid to the car park , huge pot holes filled with water and overall uneven surfaces in February 2016

We drove to the Burling Gap today as usually we would get the open top bus, only it doesn't run in the winter months. We parked up and paid £2 for 4 hours stay so very reasonably priced. It was very, very windy today and we made our way down the wooden/steel steps to the beach. The boys played and had a a great adventure on the beach searching the rock pools. There is a lovely little place to eat inside and outside up by the car park. There is also a shop where you can buy lots of souvenirs and national trust items. A great place to learn about the Burlington Gap which is very interesting for the young and old is displayed just by the shop. I have visited here in the summer months too and it is a beautiful site when you walk up from beach head.

Starting at the National Trust car park we walked along 5 of the 7 sisters then walked back and had some lunch. Then walked up to the Belle Toute lighthouse and on to Beachy Head. A superb day, with lovely winter sunshine.

Visited recently on an extremely stormy day, and pleased to find a warm welcome in the National Trust shop and the delightful cafe.
Nice assortment of snacks and warm beverages with pleasant staff.
Clean and tidy environment with quirky decor.
But, how much longer will it be here, with the continuing cliff erosion!!!
Oh dear....have to move inland slightly.

One of the most breathtaking sights of the area. You can drive here or take the bus from Eastbourne railway station.

After visiting Beachy Head we carried on along the coast to Birling Gap. It was a very blustery day so we didn't wander very far. We visited the gift shop which is lovely and the information display centre before enjoying a hot drink in the cafe. Birling Gap would be even more lovely on a nice warm sunny day.

This a place to get down the cliff to the beach. There is a cafe, restaurant and bar. You will have to pay to park on the shingle car park and you may see landslides as the cliff and or cottages fall onto the beach below.

I regularly go beach-combing at Birling Gap and it is a lovely location for a walk along the cliffs or the beach. It is nearly always a very windy location. Since the National Trust took over, there is a nice shop and an area for coffee/lunch/snacks. The car park is often full these days, although there is an overflow area.
When conditions are poor, the gate to the beach is often shut for safety reasons. It is strongly advisable to stay away from the area beneath the cliffs as there are frequent cliff-falls.

Birling Gap has a large accessible car park with a very nice café. The views are wonderful of the cliffs, birds and the English Channel. Access to the beach is via a steep set off wooden steps-which may be too much for some. The beech is made up of round flints that have fallen the cliffs and if you look carefully you might find a fossil- including the lovely sea urchin.

A peaceful little beach and energising walks over the cliffs. Well worth a visit. A nice cage here, but otherwise little to do other than relax and walk :)

Very interesting, especially the line on the floor showing where the edge of the cliffs would be in 2050. It really brings it home to you. Brim full of information. For children seeking info I imagine it would be a paradise. Any way worth a visit, even used books for sale. Well done National Trust !!!!!

Visited on the windiest day I have ever experienced! Great to walk along the beach and step back to admire the lovely cliffs. Shame they charge for parking! The NT shop is just like any other--full of expensive 'gifts' but there is a good exhibition area for everyone to enjoy too.

I have been visiting this area since childhood and there is always something new to see. It is very busy most of the year and so parking can be difficult at times. Since the National Trust has taken over the tea rooms and has opened a shop and visitor experience it has improved the area. It is quite a challenge for some people to reach the beach via the steep steps but it is worth it and it is wonderful exploring the rock pools when the tide is out. Beware potential cliff falls.

The view is stunning as all of the other reviewers have stated.
Even though we live near the seaside in Kent we were really surprised by the power of the sea here. There was little swell out to sea but the waves were really crashing on the beach. Looking along the coast towards Brighton you could see waves that must have been over 10 foot high hit the cliffs and run along their front for 5 or 6 seconds. Awesome. There is a cafe and visitor centre. Don't delay yor visit for too long. It's estimated that half of the visitor centre will be in the sea by 2053.

Birling Gap is a must visit if you are in the area. The cliffs are absolutely astounding- the view is beautiful. We were blessed with a chilly, clear blue-sky day which made for stunning photos and wonderful memories. So grateful our friends brought us to see them. Unforgettable. The cafe is also great for lunch.

Even when the wind is blowing and the sea is crashing against the beach below, this is the epitome of the English South Coast, with the cliffs that are gradually falling into the sea. The NT have done a good jop in making Birling Gap an enjoyable place to visit.

We were blessed with a clear, crisp winter day, but this place would be breathtaking in any weather. The beach (accessed from a stair tower) is a geographer's dream with lots of textbook features, including the startlingly white chalk wave cut platform and views of the cliffs. It is also the starting point for a number of circular walks in this stunning unspoilt coastal area.
Excellent National Trust facilities - tea shop, shop, visitor centre, car park (free to NT members displaying sticker)
