We went on an open-top bus with a commentary on the bus explaining all about Birling Gap, very informative. Sat in the sunshine and had a coffee in coffee shop.

This is a beautiful place to take a walk, with animals or children. The tide goes out a long way and the water remains knee deep.
Great for rock pooling as well - hundreds of crabs and fish everywhere.

Park your car directly at Birling Gap, it's only 10 minutes from Eastbourne. Have a tea or a light lunch or a snack at the National Trust Cafe and enjoy the view.

Climb down the few steps on the beach and move on to the water. Then take some pictures from both sides and let someone make a photo from you and your love or sister or mum or dad.

Then climb up and walk eastwards along the cliff as long as you want. At halftime of the planned hiking time turn around and head again to the national tourist cafe and maybe have some Cream Tea?

Halfway between Beachy Head and Exceat Park, up on the cliffs, not much there but the views are glorious.

Wild in the winter when the wind blows and lovely in the summer. Just a lovely natural beach that is part of Beachy Head and worth visiting any time of the year. Just watch the tides, you dont want to get cut off if you walk too far along the beach to see what is around the next corner!!!

Birling Gap offers a stunning visual treat of the power of the sea. There is a viewing platform from which to watch the waters and for those who prefer to view behind glass there is a small cafe nearby. I visited on a very sunny but windy day when the tide was in.

Birling Gap is now part of the National Trust it is such a great place to go! If you have children or grandchildren fab place for rock pools etc!
The coffee shop is being renovated at the moment and really looking comfortable cant wait to go and see it when it opens!
Also in the site will be a shop and information centre so really worth a trip out there.
Even on a windy grey winters day the sea is worth sitting and looking at. Go on and see I don't think you will regret it.
There is a car parking fee if you are not a member but it still worth paying it.

Newly constructed steps take you down to a beach used by bathers and boat fishermen alike. A good National Trust property adjoins, with cafe and other areas of interest.

Visited this area for walks on the Seven Sisters cliffs to Cuckmere Haven many times in the past. A beautiful area and a healthy, safe walk.
Very disappointed this year with the running of Birling Gap. The National Trust took over the running of the old family run Hotel/Cafe/restaurant/pub in the last 2-3 years. I see they are in the process of renovating major parts of the building this year, but the cafe, and toilet block in the car park are still open. A real shame then that with coach and car loads of foreign and national visitors, they could not refill the soap for the 6 days I was there. You could not clean your hands hygienically before visiting the now pricey cafe. There were days when the entire sinks area of the male toilets were strewn with peoples plastic bags of food wrappngs, bottles, cans and waste, as they have a 'policy' of not supplying trash bins. This idea is not working NT! The toilet roll holders were always full so staff obviously visit every day. Pretty poor management, Makes one ashamed to be a British resident. The refund of £2,00 of the car parking fee for cafe purchases above £10.00 is a little unfair on single travellers, but this is a minor gripe. Please clean up.

We often stop here on a walk along the length of the Seven Sisters, but today we were driving past and as the sun was out, thought we would spend the day.
Not a sandy beach, so beware if hoping for a relaxing snooze. Bring a blow up mattress or lump of foam if you do not have a spine of steel.
Toilets in the car park are clean and you can take a guess as to how long the remaining cottages are going to be standing before they make their way to France. Personally, I give them 10 years.
Easily enough to amuse children by telling them to go and hunt for fossils in the chalk, you wont see them for hours, as there arn't any :-)

A good spot to visit with great beach, lots of steps to get down, great cafe at top and parking. Low tide there are a lot of rock pools left of the steps toward lighthouse, watch the tide as it comes in fast.

I work here and hear people's comments. It's a fantastic office window... Even on a damp windy day, the views are amazing. The national trust are working wonders to enhance this site.

Having travelled along the coast from Helen Gardens to Beachy Head I felt that I had to continue to Birling Gap to see the magnificent Seven Sisters. The feeling I got from the sea spray on my face was invigorating. I would recommend anyone who appreciates beautiful scenery to pay a visit to this very special place in Sussex.

An ideal place for a lunch. If headed for the Cuckmere natural park or Seaford, you can choose at this place whether you will walk on the top of the cliffs or along the beach (you need a low tide for the latter).

Great views and access to the beach. Also there is a National trust shop that will sell you a tea / coffee and a cake. Sit outside and enjoy the views and sunshine.

This is a sight that you must stop at if you're on the south coast of England. Breathtaking view of the sea and chalk cliffs.

The scenery at Birling Gap was at the time of my walk blighted by civil engineering work, but no doubt once complete the place will take on a completely different look.
For ice cream lovers the National Trust Cafe is rather expensive for their soft scoop, at £3.50 a double scoop cone. There is nothing special about it and I would avoid wasting money on a grossly over priced product.

On a windswept Bank Holiday Saturday lunchtime there was a great queue to get out of the weather into the cafe. but once served it was OK.
There is a toilet block on the other side of the car park which is very useful after the walk across Beachy Head

A lovely walk just down from Beachy Head along the South Downs Way. They are building a charming garden.

Beautiful place to visit. Be mindful that you must be able to climb the many wooden stairs down to the beach, I had quite a lot of difficulty having had joint replacements, although I am fully over the surgery, the stairs are quite steep, plus if you have a fear of heights a quite scarey having to look down & see the great height through the gaps. There are also cliff walks but again you must be able bodied. If not you will be confined to the car park or cafe. We visited last week, although the cafe is open the car park & other buidlings are being repaired & the place is quite messy with building work going on. Once finished it should be fine. My only criticism is not of the place but of the coach loads of teenage foreign students who thought it very funny to act very stupid right next to the cliff edge. An accident or tradegy just waiting to happen. It made me feel quite ill seeing what they were up without any supervision. The place was full of students off many coaches, this is apparently a place they are taken to regularly. We encountered having sharp stones being thrown from above just missing our heads when climbing down the stairs. Other students were throwing stones off the cliff top down onto beach, anyone below could have been seriously injured.

Over many years I have been visiting Birling Gap and seen its diffferent changes. Now the National Trust have a super cafe there. You can still get down onto the beach. It is a fascinating place which will continue to change due to the sea.
