Had a lovely break in Eastbourne. The hotel is old and some areas need updating but the staff and facilities are good. The food was average but typical of this kind of holiday and quite acceptable. Trips ok but terrible driver - no personality so spoiled the excursions as he had no knowledge of the area. Overall though, very good value for money. We updated to a sea view room and was well worth it. Eastbourne is spotless and has a lovely promenade. Would definitely recommend.

We arrived Saturday afternoon and checked in by very nice lady. We had trouble finding a permit holder parking space what the hotel charge £1 per 24 hour parking. We found a ncp small multi story car park 3 minute walk from hotel, cost £5 for 24 hrs and is locked up after 9 pm until early morning, suited us fine. Hotel refunded our permit slip with no problem. We expected the hotel to be grubby after reading some of the reviews, we were pleasantly surprised how clean and fresh everything was on arrival, we had a sea view room on third floor. My husband and I felt like we were in a Premier Inn room, very nice. We had a buffet breakfast in the morning which we enjoyed. The breakfast room was not too busy, they do seat in certain areas, bit bunched up in places would have been more comfortable if guest were spread out a bit. Nice staff all very polite. Would definitely stay here again

We travelled here with Shearings for a 5 day break in February. Although we got off to a bad start - we were offered a room which should not have been offered to anyone due to its condition - the staff were great and dealt with the problem very efficiently. We were given a room with a lovely view of the sea. We were able to watch the sunrise and sunset from the comfort of our room. The food was good, the entertainment was O.K.

Once the rooms in need of upgrading and refurbishment are completed this will be a decent hotel.

Overall the trip was fine.

This hotel is in a great location some tired areas corridors and toilets need upgrading room was a good size food very good I had a problem with the shower as I couldn't regulate the temperature so found washing my hair difficult. also we had a letter to be vigilant regards security but got home one day and door was unlocked so not happy about that.

The setting on the seafront was the highlight for me. The hotel is fine and the rooms are actually large, spacious, and fairly modern. The breakfast was ok although I was a little annoyed at being seated so far from everyone else. This hotel seemed to cater for an older crowd on this weekend but overall it was pleasant enough.

Just back from mid week break at this hotel booked a sea view room and because of the single glazing and wind had to move rooms were offered choice of three other rooms one also on sea front and just as bad one a double we booked a twin and the other was warm unfortunately overlooked a flat roof with decaying birds on it thread bare carpets not what we wanted when we booked but staff are amazing and very helpful

Just returned from a 5 day break with National Holidays at the Burlington. The hotel is an imposing looking building in a prime position almost opposite the pier. We booked a seafront room (319) and were pleasantly surprised with the room size and storage choices. The bathroom was also roomy with a good walk-in shower. Access to rooms is via 2 lifts, one of which is tiny. As this is a Victorian building the steps are rather steep and winding..
The restaurant is massive with very efficient staff of all nationalities. Our waitress was Polish and a gem. Food was well cooked and plentyfull with good choices ,Breakfast was self service and could not be bettered.
Evening entertainment was hit and miss with Mark the camp compere doing everything to keep the punters happy (mostly successfully) . Bar prices were a little steep if you were not on a voucher deal.
All staff from reception to cleaners were very friendly and helpful and were a credit to the hotel.
With a more varied entertainment an extra star would have been given but all in all the Burlington was a good choice.

We've just returned from a thoroughly enjoyable break with Shearings at this hotel. The location is great, overlooking the pier & not too far from shopping centre. We upgraded to a sea view refurbished room(303) & it was lovely,it had a big bathroom with bath & shower. The beds were very comfy & the furnishings really good. The view was wonderful overlooking the pier & beach. The dining room was pleasant & the staff very helpful, the food was adequate always given a choice & served hot.The reception staff were helpful & polite as were the bar staff & the entertainment was enjoyable.Their are areas of the hotel that need an upgrade but nothing drastic. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

This was my sister and I's fourth stay in a Bay hotel and the Burlington did not disappoint. Brilliant location on prom by pier and a few steps away from main shopping centre. Our room at the rear had a view of the South Downs and an unusual bathroom accessed by a few steps down. Good comfy bed, good linen, hot (very, very) hot water. Half board three course meals as ever, always consistently very good. The four free drinks each on the Saturday night were a bonus. Staff very friendly and helpful. The only criticism was there was not a 'quiet' lounge to sit in other than the few seats in the sunlounge. Main ballroom had bingo, then a quiz then the entertainment at 9.30pm, it was a little too brightly lit and noisy for our taste. All in all a Bay Hotel is still brilliant value and we will book again.

Just returned from a long Weekend Break organised by Shearings. Shearings were from start to finish outstanding.
My review is for The Bay Burlington Hotel, a Beautiful Old Building set in an Idylic position in Eastbourne.
Yes is some areas there are signs of shabbiness. But it is Clean.Bed Linen and Towels were just fine. The Hotel is very Busy so it is obvious that wear and tear will occur.. I do have a few gripes. We upgraded to a room with a view overlooking the Pier and Gardens.,lovely..... But please there is room for a Chair in the Bathroom to avoid the Balancing on one leg syndrome I am past my tender years so there is a risk of falling. There is no place to put toiletries apart from the floor. It is obvious the lifts are inadequate for the amount of Clients, many people in wheelchairs or using walking Aids...The Hotel everywhere was unpleasantly hot.Entertainment was good.
Food..... I personally found a very hit and miss in quality. I returned two main courses from Evening Dinner. Burnt Lasagne, and inedible Mushroom Stroganoff ( the latter was quite dreadful)... There was much confusion, first courses wrong orders delivered to table. Chaotic ! ..Breakfast was like bun Fight......This was brought to the attention of Restaurant Manager..who did not apologise or rectify, he just disappeared....
I do think the Food was the most dissapointing feature of the Weekend.. Quality not quantity is what counts. The Food Failed this...... Eastbourne is a lovely Resort.. I will return but not sure if it would be to The Burlington.

A pleasant late winter break with shearing hotel is quite clean standards in rooms vary our room looked to have been recently modernised next door had not food was excellent with plenty of choice staff excellent friendly couldn't do enough for you we had a young lady called Beatrix super my only concern was security while we stayed here a room on the 4 floor was broken into and staff told us this was not the first incident the reception is set to the left of the main entrance and the access to the stairs and. Lifts to the right couple this with a bar and cafe open to the public means little or no control over who has access to the bedrooms and the locks on the doors are nor substantial our room 300 looked like if you put your shoulder hard against it it would go an there appears to be marks where someone had tried to jemmy the door a worry that while on holiday you don't need

We enjoyed a lovely Shearings Midweek break at this hotel in February 2017 and from the bus trip down to the bus trip back it was brilliant. The hotel Manager, Christine, welcomed everyone on arrival and the receptionists booked all the guests it quickly and professionally. The room we were issued was very comfortable, clean and modern. The view from our bedroom window of the promenade and pier, and of course the rolling waves that lapped the shore, were spectacular. The hotel dining room is large and beautiful as is the bar area and lounge? Some areas of the hotel were still in need of renovation but all in all we were very happy with the hotel and the accommodation. The breakfast was very good and as it was self service you could choose your own mix; the evening meal was served by your waiter/waitress and was well cooked and well presented. All the staff throughout the hotel were attentive and very polite and nothing was too much trouble, the receptionists in particular. The entertainment manager was a good laugh and the guests joined in with the bingo and the quizzes which made you use your brain a bit. The acts were also good and worth listening to. All in all we would like to thank Christine and her team at the Burlington, and to Peter our Shearings driver, for making our midweek break very enjoyable. Well done.

Just recently returned after a 3 night weekend stay at Bay Burlington and were very happy right from the start which was the good welcome at reception and then to our sea view room which was very clean and plenty of room and seating, well worth paying the extra for a sea view. The receptionist even met us at the car park to unlock the barrier, car park was also extra but saves looking around side streets. The food was excellent, well presented meals and again excellent service. The rooms were well maintained every day. The entertainment was superb, many thanks to Marky for that, he is a super star and a lovely person. I would have given 5 stars but the shower was terrible, only a trickle due to no pressure, water into the bath took forever. This was on the 4th floor (417). All in all, super hotel, staff and all aspects of the hotel.

Stayed at the Burlington on a weekend on a Shearings coach tour. Lovely hotel on the seafront. Close to town centre and bars. Hotel was warm and comfortable. Staff very friendly nothing was too much trouble. Food was nice and always hot. Breakfast was buffet style and excellent choice of cereal, porridge, bacon, sausage, hash browns, beans, tomatoes, eggs, which you can have poached fried boiled scrambled. Toast, jam tea and coffee. Entertainment, hosted by Marky, was very good. Rooms were very nice. No complaints from us. Will definitely visit again.

My husband and myself booked this S hearings break as my husband is recovering from stomach cancer I read a few different review sites and was becoming concerned I had made a mistake. But what a surprise the hotel facilities and staff so far are excellent. When I checked in I was given a upgrade and the room is perfect room 109 spacious clean and has a feature so special to us as previous to my husband getting the cancer we loved the sea and this room has a full size window that opens facing the sea so we are able to hear the waves perfect. The first nights meal was excellent and suitable for my husbands condition. We spent the evening in the entertainment area and was so relaxed we enjoyed the entertainment from Mark and laughed all night. The buffet style breakfast I have just eaten was also lovely. I am here until Friday and expect these standards to continue . The moral of this early review is do not be concerned about other reviews you read as what I have found with Shearings is if something is not to your standard speak to them as they try there best to make everything brilliant. Good value for money and will return.

We stayed here after another hotel cancelled our booking last minute.

We booked through late rooms and was a little worried when we got there and they have no booking on their system. Thankfully the very helpful reception staff sorted this out.

The corridors looked a little tired but the room was lovely, really spacious and with a lovely view. All clean and had everything we needed.

A problem we had was that the room was super warm. We turned the heating off and opened the windows but still felt like we were cooking. This could of course, just be our preference and we could have been surrounded by others in their rooms who had heating on.

Also, the bed was too hard for us...but again, there was nothing wrong with it...just what we prefer.

Thank you for a pleasant stay.

We have just spent a three night break at The Burlington on a Shearings coach tour.We have visited many Bay hotels but i think that the Burlington is probably the best.It is very well situated on the seafront about a ten minute walk from the town centre which is a very good shopping area (Arndale centre, T J Hughes wetherspoons etc )
The hotel itself is a typical Victorian building, A lot of refurbishment seems to have taken place, other areas i,e the corridors do need attention. Our room on the third floor was of a good size with plenty of storage it was at the back of the hotel, very Quite and heated to a very pleasant temperature. The bedroom and bathroom appeared to have been recently decorated, my only small complaint would be the lack of a decent shelf in the bathroom.
Food in the restaurant was good with a reasonable choice and exceptionally good service, the buffet breakfast was top class, well cooked warm and of good quality.
Unlike the last couple of Bay Hotels we have stayed in The Burlington has a resident host / compare (Mark) who works very hard to make the evenings enjoyable
with the usual Bingo,Quiz and Cabaret act, he certainly succeeds in creating a good atmosphere,Bar prices were as you would expect in a South Coast hotel - beer £3.75, bottle of wine £15,
Overall for its value for money, good service, food and Exceptionally pleasant staff the Burlington is a hotel i would not hesitate to recommend'

I was a bit worried about some of the reviews I had read before going on this Shearings coach break about this hotel ,but I was pleasantly surprised. Yes the hotel has a few issues here and there but that adds to its charm ,the staff are all nice ,its clean and warm ,and the entertainment is the evening is great fun ,and the food is good ,what more do you want for the small price you pay .And best of all its right on the sea front .
The only down side for me was our Shearings coach driver did,nt know anything at all about the places we visited on our excursions ,she was one of the poorest drivers we have had .but never mind it was still a nice break.

I went to this hotel for a weekend break, it included drinks vouchers on Saturday. The bedroom was comfortable with a good bed, but the room was sea facing and not double glazed, noise at night from passing vehicles. The shower was poor lacking power, reported to reception but did not improve. There were two lifts, but one was very small and remained out of service most of the weekend. The food was good, buffet breakfast with a good choice, Evening meal was waiter served. I would probably not stay here again.
