Like its sister restaurant, Pomodoro, La Lucanda is a well-established and very popular watering hole. It is more up-market and quieter than its sister and its food is even more carefully presented by its highly efficient and welcoming staff. Here you get the extras you would expect in a more sophisticated restaurant. The varied menu is extensive but very well cooked. Vegetables are served separately. Vegetarians are well looked after. The wine list is not over-long and is well and carefully chosen - there are some very good bottles at sensible prices. The Sicilian House wine (especially the red) is a snip. The restaurant attracts more adult clientele and its class is shown by the need to book ahead - as it is at Pomodoro: at popular times - opera nights, weekends, Christmas etc. - it is packed out and it is difficult to get a table. Both restaurants are popular with local Italians and attract the tennis fraternity during the Aegon championship immediately before Wimbledon, for, the latter, are sure of being provided with dishes which meet their training schedules! The popularity of this restaurant (as of Pomodoro) is very well deserved. As examples of their type they provide very good value-for money and out-distance their competitors by a country mile. It's not Enoteca Pinchiorri in Florence but then it doesn't set out to be but for what it aims at it achieves in spades.

Very friendly and accommodating restaurant, food was fab, service prompt but friendly , didn't feel we had to rush out even though it was full. I thought the price was very reasonable, we seemed to get a lot for our money. Would go there again

I have walked past this restaurant many times and finally went in last week, we had a very warm welcome and were immediately shown to a table and felt very at home, bread, olives and water were immediately brought to the table effortlessly and our drinks followed quickly, the menu is extensive and traditional Italian with all the expected favourites, I had veal in a mushroom cream sauce which was delicious and my partner chose from the 3 course set meal which was also excellent. The food was very good but it was the friendly exceptional service that made this meal special. Will definitely be returning as a couple and also for a family meals, there were a couple of large groups who also looked very happy and well looked after.
Wish I had found this gem before, looking forward to my next visit.

This is not one of the finest restaurants I have been in , nor the cheapest but for consistently excellent food that a wide variety of your guests all enjoy, then this restaurant takes some beating. prices are middle of the road but the dishes are more 'top end'. I have been here many many times, with important clients, romantic dinners with my wife, big staff dinners, overseas guests etc and it ticks the box every single time without a big bill . The owner who is now an elderly gentleman always comes round and personally checks that everyone is happy. Great food, great wine, fine dining, imaginative recipes, great prices.

Decided to go and have a meal here without making a reservation and just about got a spare table which is always a good sign. From nowhere and effortlessly, waiters and waitresses from all directions descended on our table, bringing fresh olives and bread and menus. This type of excellent service set the tone for the entire meal. You wont be having to crane your neck to get a waiters attention or wait ages and ages between courses or ask for more water or anything.
My minestrone soup was delicious as was my chichen in creme sauce followed by a terrific pancake full of cream and smothered in fresh red berries and nuts. All the while, a waiter would replenish our glasses with water all the time without being intrusive. The food was delicious, the plates hot and the food hot. Service was as good as ANY FIVE STAR HOTEL. No wonder this lovely restaurant always seems so busy! It is a family run,REAL Italian restaurant-the staff are immaculately dressed and friendly and attentive. Excellent prices too. I will go back again and again.

It was a busy Friday night and we hadn't booked but we did have a coupon for 10% off the total bill which happened to be on a tourist leaflet we had picked up at the information centre. The welcome was very warm and genuine and the restaurant is very nicely set out.
We opted for the set 3 course evening menu which was excellent. The wine list was very reasonably priced, and genuine advice was given without trying to push the most expensive bottle. Free bread and olives were brought to the table, a nice touch these days, and both the olives and bread were delicious. This place is teaming with waiters and waitresses, none of the usual sitting around waiting for someone to notice if you need something. The portions were generous and tasty. We finished with coffee and brandy. The brandy came in extra large brandy glasses and was warmed over glasses of hot water. How nice to see things done properly and with attention to detail. When we asked for the bill we were asked if we would like another complimentary brandy....who could say no to that! The whole evening was very enjoyable, and how nice it was to get such excellent service from such pleasant people. It felt like a genuine family concern and we wished we lived in Eastbourne because this would be a wonderful "local" to return to time and time again.

Great choice of fresh Italian food, with a 2 or 3 course set menu, and extensive a la carte. The staff could not have been more welcoming, and it would be my first choice restaurant when returning.
Thank you so much

The mid week set lunch is extraordinarily good quality and outstanding value. We visit regularly and I have reviewed before but felt compelled to write an update on last week's lunch menu. The squid starter was stunning - fresh and beautifully cooked in a crisp batter without a hint of grease. The main of sole with a butter sauce and a lovely selection of hot and fresh vegetables was almost as delicious and quite extraordinary on a three course menu for less than £15. We love the friendly and attentive staff here too. Our charming waiter brought us a dish of vegetables each and offered to bring yet more if needed.
See you again soon!

I took my sister for a lunch and we were really impressed by the food and service. My sister said it was one of best Italian meals she had had. Only slight minus was the wine list a clip expensive.

We had a meal here with friends before a theatre visit, and were made very welcome. The staff are friendly and attentive, without being intrusive. The food was excellent, if a little pricey, but the set menu is good value. Would certainly eat here again!

My wife and I have been eating here for many years. We visit Eastbourne a couple of times every year. The manager and staff are lovely and treat us with good humoured service. If you are in Eastbourne you really must experience this truly wonderful restaurant. You will then see for yourself that good food and good service make it somewhere you will return to.

Whilst in Eastbourne visiting with friends, we booked a table for 4 for dinner on Saturday.
The ambience was super and all the staff were Italian. The food was super with my wife and friends having a fish dish with salmon, sword fish and sea bass cooked on garlic butter with fresh vegetables, broccoli, carrots, new potatoes and cauliflower. My meal was Escalope of Veal in a cream sauce with mushrooms together with the above vegetables. The food was scrumptious and accompanied by a Sauvignon Blanco for the girls and a Primitivo for us guys it was truly superb. The Primitivo was one of the best I have supped. Desert was home made cassata and home made Italian ice cream. Yum!

If you would like a quality meal with a top quality service then try this Italian restaurant in cenral Eastbourne. I have visited several times in the last year, generally as special occasion meals. Every time the service and food has been consistently high quality. Generally speaking the restaurant appears more focused towards adults having a leisurely meal than children who would get very bored.
The menu is varied, as is the drinks menu. Both offering excellent value for money. Will certainly be back, but not sure i'll bother waiting for a special occasion.

Excellent service and delicious food. You feel very welcome on entering and this atmosphere is maintained throughout your visit. Backed up with a great menu which is cooked to perfection we enjoyed a seafood platter with desert of poached pears and cinnamon ice cream. Perfectly located for short walk to seafront or Devonshire Park Theatre, the owner was on hand to chat and check all was well...which of course it was. If this restaurant was in our town there is no doubt that we would be working our way through the menu!

Our hotel recommended this restaurant as it was in walking distance. It was extremely busy which is good news. The menu had lots of options and we both decided to have steak. This came with plenty of choice of vegetables and was extremely succulent - excellent. The wine list was comprehensive and although the desserts looked yummy, we were too full. All in all a super find and the service was excellent.
