Unassuming on the outside, but inside a real gem! Welcomed by the boss-man and served with freebies (olives and little tarts), and we could see our food being prepared as the two chefs beavered away next to the leaping flames. I cannot speakly too highly about the quality and the general ambience. We would certainly visit again.

We popped into Meze one Sunday lunchtime about 2pm and were very happy with the whole experience.
The abundance of food, flavours, textures and ambiance were spot on and a pleasure to behold. The portions are more than generous and maybe if your not a big eater, it would be best to share.
We started with a cold mixed Meze plate and hot filo pastries stuffed with feta cheese, spinach and parsley. Both were absolutely delightful. Previously we had some Turkish bread with olives, feta and garlic butter presented to us with our drinks.
We decided to share a main of Et Sote (lamb, tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms) served with bulgur wheat and yoghurt. All elements on the plate were exemplary and second to none. Desserts were equally delicious especially the hot one, sorry not sure what it was called but it tasted divine. It was drenched in sugar syrup and served with soft cheese (?)
To date, this has been our best eating experience in Eastbourne and one that we hope to keep repeating. Yes, it was that good!
Total cost for turkish bread and accompaniments (free), 2 starters, 1 main, 1 extra bread, 2 desserts, 2 large glasses of wine and one fantastically strong grainy authentic Turkish coffee (wow!) was approx £46.00
Highlights of the meal were the Turkish Bread, Bulgur Wheat and Turkish Coffee.
Iced tap water was not a problem and they do not add any service charge to your bill, which is rather delightful in this day and age. It does irk me so that many resturants have the cheek of adding this to your bill. Surely it is up to the customer to decide what they want to tip someone!
So all in all a fabulous late lunch in a fabulous restauarnt with wonderful food and wonderful service. Tip them well . . .
We will be returning. Thanks :)

We started to come here a few years ago with my family as a birthday treat or with overseas friends visiting. It's always great, the food, the way it's cooked and presented, the huge portions, the yoghurty-salty drink ( a firm fave ) Turkish food is very healthy and quick to prepare..watching it ,,live,, is fun in itself. Not much to look at from the outside, but do venture in...it's absolutely worth it !

We came to this restaurant after reading all the positive reviews. We arrived 5:45 without a booking. We were told we could eat if we were done by 7 as they had other people booked. Everything we picked was prepared and cooked fresh. We watched the chef doing it. The flavours were fantastic. You have to try this restaurant life is too short not to. We are a family of four. The portions were halved for the children, no problems. Good food, good value, good atmosphere. What more could you want?

This is a great little restaurant. The food is fresh, and tasty. The meat and mez[z]e are really well cooked, and the bread, especially the 'balloon' bread is divine. If you like good quality, fresh food with great service, this place is for you. My favourite place to eat in Eastbourne, by far.

Excellent early evening meal, attentive service and wonderful food. Warning do not fill up on the Meze as the mains are very substantial and filling. Highly recommended.

This was a real surprise of a find. It doesn't look much from the outside but the food was wholly delicious. Friendly service and lovely atmosphere. A must visit if you like full of flavour food.

Went with my partner and parents to this lovely restaurant. The Meze speacial at £19.50 was great value - you pick a starter each and then get a mixed platter to share for the main which includes plenty of chicken, lamb, wings, ribs along with lots of their fresh flat bread (sorry dont know its real name) and very good salad along with a large vegetable skewer and a rice base. The wine is well priced, we went for the Turkish house red (£15) which was very drinkable and worked well with the food. Everything is beautfiully cooked right in front of you on the grill in the main restaurant and the staff are friendly and helpful. It was quite noisy, however it is such a good atmosphere that it was just everyone having a good time so not a problem. The whole meal came to £125 for the 4 of us including the special mentioned, 2 bottles of wine and quite a few bottles of beer and a couple of Turkish coffees (if you havent had these before then this is a good place to try it - if you ask for it sweet it is a cross between coffee and a chocolate and finishes the meal perfectly - just don't try and drink the thick dregs at the bottom of the cup!). Quality this good for £30 a head including drinks works for us. You do need to book, the place was packed on a saturday night. Would definately recommend although next time will ask not to be quite so close to the grill or the unit they keep the extra glasses and cutlery on - the staff were lovely about it and tried to be as unobtrusive as possible so it didnt matter too much in the end, was just a bit offputting when we first sat down. Will revisit soon.

Very friendly atmosphere, food absolutely lovely and freshly prepared by the chef in full view. We had the Meze Special at £19.95 per person which was very good value considering the delicious array of food. Our main course was a selection of chicken (cubed and wings), lamb (spiced, ribs, chops and cubed) and vegetables all grilled to perfection over charcoal. The best Meze we have tasted and we've had many over the years.

We have eaten here regularly over the years and the quality is always there. It must also be the best value in Eastbourne. Packed out when we visited on a Friday night when many other restaurants almost empty. Says it all.

Saturday 23rd February.
I booked this restaurant as having a weekend in Eastbourne and tripadvisor had good reviews, booked table for two in the week.
When we arrived in the evening it did not have a fantastic kerb appeal, did wonder hmmmm... oh well it is booked so got to go...
We had a warm welcome and sat down table for two, this was around 7:30pm and the restuarant is small and was about a third full. Not the best of signs on a Saturday evening.....
We ordered drinks, reviewed the menu.
Then within the space of ten minutes two couples had come in and asked for a table, only to be turned away. Fully booked!
By 8:30 all tables taken.. so do book for a Saturday.
I will bullet point the main notes:
The chef is in the room sitting/standing by a real bbq, he then cooks to order fresh food and you can see it all being prepared. The smell of the hot coals, the heat, was great.
I had the meze special which included a starter and the mains a selection of kebabs, was lovely!
Complimentary turkish puffed up bread and dips, very good.
If you order a specific dish you do get a larger kebab/shish... I really enjoyed the special but next time will order probably the shish...the meat literally melt in your mouth...
At the back are two round tables which can fit between 4-6 people I expect, they looked really good so if a group reserver one of these. If a large group and can have both would be good fun.
The bill was very reasonable and the service was informal, maybe laid back but works for me.
Had a lovely meal and would go back again.
Do remember it does not look all the frills, it is the food that counts.
Hope if you go you have the same experience.

I have eaten here several times now and it has been consistently great. The staff are lovely and it it's really reasonably priced. Four of us ate the other week, two starters, wine, two coffees and four main courses for about £70. Lots to choose from, I love the Izmir Kofte which is served with bulgar and bread. Kebabs, salads.... great.
It is small, but has a great atmosphere, the grill is in the restaurant so you can smell and see your food cooking.I really recommend!

Visited this restuarant recently and was impressed by the friendly staff.
Our waiter explained the menu and gave us plenty of time to choose from the menu. The food was freshly cooked only feet from our table and was delicious.
I would highly recommend this restuarant, espcially for those wanting to try a diffrent style of food. I would book in advance to ensure a table as there are a limited amount of tables and I would expect very popular on Friday and Saturday nights.

Our first visit to Meze was as part of a large group. No problem! I was given advice on what to order, the food arrived promptly, the order was correct. At the end of the meal we were all provided with separate bills without any sighing or eye rolling (as is often the case in other establishments.)
I enjoyed to food very much. My only reservation is that it could have been a tiny bit hotter. Very tasty, with generous portions.Nice atmosphere - all staff very friendly.

This is our second visit to this restaurant, this time with friends, and we were not disappointed. We were warmly welcomed by the owner and helped through the extensive menu. Once again we found the food to be delicious and authentically Turkish. Our friends enjoyed the food and the experience. If you are looking for a "different" evening out we can thoroughly recommend the Meze. The

Freshly prepared Turkish/greek food that hits the spot everytime. Healthy and delicious, cannot resist the full meze where you get a choice of starters (always opt for the dolma!) and then a full platter of meats and vegetables. Amazing.
Have been more than a few times and never disappoints.
The slightly spicy chicken kebabs are butter-soft in their marinade, and the spicy minced lamb kebab is addictive. Lamb kebabs, chops, chicken wings, and ribs accompany tomatoes and peppers and what I think is bulgar wheat in a lovely tomato sauce.
All this plus salad, yoghurt and a bottle of wine comes to about £60. amazing value for the amount of well-prepared quality ingredients beautifully chargrilled on the grill in front of you.
highly recommend!

Carlos, his family and staff prepare excellent, tasty and fresh Turkish food, served with great beer and wines, in a lovely atmosphere. Meze offers an extensive menu, cooked by the chef as you wait. Food is delicious, and is great for couples, families and friends. We really enjoyed the restaurant and the experience.
