If you like history you'll love it, if not you may find it quite empty. It is ruins after all! Beautiful views across the country and to the sea. Very windy and open though, so dress up warmVisited on

We joined English Heritage that morning and took advantage straight away! Welcoming staff who gave us great intro and the information on audio guide and boards really interesting and brings place to life. There is more of it to explore than you would think at first look and the village, tea room next door, and local walks are incredible. It should get more focus really as this is where William the Concourer landed his invasion force and fortified this Castle as his initial base before sailing up the coast and landing at Hastings for the battle!

Great area to explore. Sadly the castle was only open on weekends so this was disappointing.

Pevensey Castle is a medieval castle and former Roman Saxon Shore fort at Pevensey in the English county of East Sussex. With a history stretching back over 16 centuries, Pevensey Castle chronicles more graphically than any other fortress the story of Britain's south coast defences.
Impressive ruins. The grounds of Pevensey castle are open. The shop will be open but all other indoor areas remain closed, and safety measures are in place to keep everyone safe. Plenty park benches around to sit and enjoy the scenery. Surrounded by some nice restaurants and pubs. Trails to walk around.

Audio guide should have come with earphones; site could have made more of the Roman history. But, really friendly lady in the kiosk, and made a few hours of what is after all, a ruin. £7 is max I would pay though..you can get whole stately piles for that price.

Beautiful place with a lot of history. Lots of information plaques around. Entrance to the castle itself is a bit pricey given you can see everything from the entrance, but nice short walk with a lovely view.Visited on
