Not overall much to see. Car park you need to pay for as it isn't included in the heritage membership. If you need the loo they are on the car park by the beer garden. Very poorly signed and myself including many others walked all into the castle to be told to turn back around again. I strongly advise for you to use the audio tour on this site. Small gift shop at the end with a lovely member of staff.

Lovely part of the world. Great walk around the grounds and to historic Westham. Good stop off for the nearby tearoom which has a delish afternoon tea. Very pleasant staff as well.

A beautiful place where one can experience a visit to layers of history. A massive Roman fort contains a Norman castle, then there are Tudor gun emplacements and WW2 pill boxes. Set in the stunning village of Pevensey, you can see the sea that once lapped at the foot of the walls a half mile off. At either end are historic churches and walks into the levels.

Tops for Roman grandeur, historical significance, picnics and big skies. Bit low on big grand keep. Still, a lovely spot

This is what a Castle should look like.
Full of history from 1066 to WW11

Great grounds, outside areas free to access. Castle is English Heritage so fee payable. Had to pre book online

A very interesting experience

We had a country life butter 2for1 voucher for EH tickets and the cashier was accommodating and polite of this. The audio tour was brilliant. Our 7 yo really enjoyed the children’s version. It brought the castle to life… polite staff. Well placed interpretation boards. Good Covid safe precautions. Highly recommend!

This is the first time I have returned to Pevensey Castle I about 40 years, when I last visited it was occupied by sheep and free to visit, don’t get me wrong this is a very interesting historical site, but please make it affordable for all, we have visited several site in July 21 and a lot are free to visit and only asked for donations. The attendant Phillip was very polite and helpful, thank you.

The interplay between local geography and the site’s varying significance over time was very well explored. We really enjoyed the audio guide and found it very informative. It also kept our preschooler entertained finding all the points to activate the audio! He also liked the treasure trail, which created some good talking points and would work even better for primary age children.

Paid car parking (not English Heritage) is in Pevensey just outside.

Lovely place to visit, it has loads of history particularly because of the surrounding area. Free audio tour for those who want one and some fantastic views even on a cloudy day

When I saw what a ruin it was I was thinking of a quick walk round and that's it. I do live next to Dover Castle so was comparing! In fact I found it fascinating the amount of history was surprising. Very much recommend the audio guide.
