Fantastic visit. Yes you can see elements of the castle ruins from outside but it is definitely worth paying to visit and learn more (£20 for family of 3). The audio guide was a fantastic way to bring the history to life and my 6 year old loved his kid's version after learning about castles at school.

It's not big but great to wander around for an hour or so.
Team are really friendly and the exhibits educational and interesting.
Don't expect too much it is only a small ruined castle but we'll worth checking out.

And definitely go to the Tea Rooms next door before or after.

Spent a couple of hours walking around the castle grounds than went for a cuppa at the tea rooms, hadn't booked but was lucky to get a table, staff friendly, tea perfect.
Worth booking for a afternoon tea.

Lovely place to visit. The Fort has an incredible and rich history is to be discovered and digested. My mind was blown so many times when I realised this was a roman fort firstly, protecting the country against invasion from the Saxons and Angles, then from vikings, then from the Normans.
It didn't do a very good job...

Really beautiful ruins to explore and enjoy the long history of the castle. Really friendly staff that are very approachable, car park next to the castle which is pay and display but it's not that expensive.

This was interesting from an historic persepctive but there is not much else to do here. We combined this with a visit to Battle and that made the day much more worthwhile

Lovely self guided tour of the castle ruins learning about the history of the place from its inception to modern day. Particularly liked the interactive geography slides showing how the coastline has changed through the ages. Perfect for a dry day. Staff very welcoming and the venue was very covid safe with limited numbers and copious hand gel stations. The only thing I could suggest would be for the boards where you activate your guided voice tour to be numbered so you can do each one in turn
