Pevensey Castle

The castle is great but the facilities are appalling. We couldn't find a loo we could use, and given that we had spent 3 hours driving there I would describe that as inhumane. And the car park was little more than a bomb site (council run not English Heritage) with no facilities. And it charged: one might have expected English Heritage to have negotiated a free deal for its members, but they haven't. The Council knows that the car park is a cash cow for it, for it charges significantly more [@£3] than parking in the centre of Eastbourne [5 miles away]. BAH, it all begs the question what services are one paying the council for - not value for money.

An incredible place that transports you to the past.
It has a large enough space to walk within the facilities, fresh air and comfortable parking.
It looks like something out of a story book.
Walking inside the wall is free.
Currently, due to the pandemic, you have to reserve a ticket to enter the castle, which costs around 15 pounds.

Great day out, interesting to visit the castle itself as well as 2 old churches next to it. Large grounds for kids (and dogs) to run around and a pub with the beers garden opposite for food and drinks.

Beautiful grounds and lots of space. Locals are friendly and it's dog friendly too. Plenty of fields surrounding the castle. Narrow roads near too however but car park available

Pevensey Castle has an amazing history. But past that it's a lovely place to take kids. There's a large part that you can walk around for free, but if we want to keep these incredible parts of our unique history please pay the money to visit the interior!! It's worth every penny!!!

Lovely to walk around (somewhat paved). Pay to get in to see more of the same (ruins). Pay and display parking before entry. Pub and tea rooms just outside the castle grounds. Public toilets open and available too. Be sure to pop into St Nicholas Church nearby.

Excellent walk across Pevensey Levels to the castle. Nice to stroll around the grounds and local village, then back to Eastbourne. Very tranquil.

Hauntingly beautiful ruins surrounded by lovely countryside. A small river runs nearby. A water filled moat runs partway around the inner walls. Unfortunately, COVID has prevented access inside the inner curtain wall; an iron pad locked gate is across the entrance.

Eager to get some good shots of the castle and to launch our drone, we walked to the right of the entrance and down a slope. There, we climbed over a small gate and across a part of the moat that was dry and grass filled. Once over, we were next to the castle itself and got some great footage.

Parking is next to the castle (pay and display) and funds from the parking fees go towards the upkeep of the local museum.

Altogether a wonderful place albeit limited at present.
