Didn't go in as it's English Heritage. Walked around the outside. Got royally lost doing the 1066 walk due to a terminal lack of any kind of signage. Still had a good time, and the sheep didn't mind us traversing their field. They're probably used to people getting lost. Maybe they ate the signs...

Pevensey Castle is an English Heritage site so free for members but £7.60 for adult non members. There is a car park just outside but this is managed separately and costs £2.50 per visit. The entrance fee covers the inside of the main castle, but you can access the the rest of this large site within the curtain walls free of charge. To be honest, this would be sufficient for most visitors and I'm not sure the castle entrance fee is worth paying, especially as the bulk of the castle is currently undergoing restoration and is covered with scaffolding (at October 2020). You can visit the small dungeon and the inside of a couple of the remaining towers but other than this there is little to see. That said, our visit overall was enjoyable and worthwhile if you have EH membership.

Fortunately it was a fine day when we visited and would not recommend on a rainy day. It is a remarkable construction covering a wide area and well preserved even from Roman times. The outer castle has a pathway and is free for anyone to enter while the inner mediaeval castle has to be paid for. This was built soon after the Norman conquest and used during the Second world war and gun slits were incorporated into the fabric.
There is an interesting exhibition showing what operations were carried out during the war.
Also worthwhile is a walk along the south side of the castle where the scale of the construction can be appreciated.

I had a very enjoyable visit to Pevensey Castle. You have to book online beforehand and this is straightforward to do. I was lucky to have lovely weather when I visited. There is virtually no shelter if the weather was bad. Walking to the castle and around it, it was a peaceful walk and so nice to get some fresh air. The castle is mostly external walls but still an interesting visit and great opportunities for keen photographers. The ticket office also sells souvenirs and the member of staff who scanned our tickets was friendly and informative. A very pleasant visit. Thank you.

Visited 15th September. Restoration work still underway, but doesn't spoil a great walk around. NO TOILETS ON SITE! These are situated in the pub garden outside the walls by carpark.

We visited Pevensey castle today (07/09/20). We are a family of 6 so we paid over £30 for tickets. No discounts..no special offers. Full price tickets..which we had to book in advance and online.
We were disappointed on arrival that the majority of the castle was covered in scaffolding and having work done which we told would be there till December.
The lady at reception was lovely. Told us about the history of the castle. My daughter was excited about exploring the dungeons..cells...anything that involved going up and down steps..especially when the receptionist told us we might find some toads in one. They were all closed off. Gutted.
The houses around the castle were very old fashioned which created a medieval feel. Lovely looking place.
So..advice to people..especially families with young children. Wait till the work is completed before visiting.

We did a road trip and stopped by Pevensey Castle on our way from Brighton to Hastings.

It was a lovely break, we walked the grounds of the castle and stop for a small picnic in the grounds, the bonus is that there are toilets that are open which is very welcome on a road trip

Late afternoon visit and unfortunately couldn’t get in to see the exhibition. However, just walking around the inner and outer part of this beautiful castle was enough to appreciate its history.

I’m always amazed as to how these stone walls have survived the English weather especially by the sea where the salt must damage the mortar that bind the stonewall. The weather clouds gave the photos of the walls a brilliant backdrop.

This is a piece of English history and there is no need to pay. Walking in the extensive ground is impressive although there is only grass and crumbling wall to view. The keep was closed and full of scaffolding. However you can look through the gates. It did not look like it was worth paying to go inside. The views over the reclaimed land stimulate the imagination about the old harbour. Well worth a trip but you will have to pay for parking during the day.

Had a great visit to the castle. The WWII exhibitions was particularly interesting and engaging. Great views from the towers which was a good bonus. Good value at £6.90 per adult. Only disappointment was that a part is having construction works but that can’t be helped. Overall a lovely visit

It was ok but there was to much reading and not much action. I am a member of the English Heritage so I got in for free. However, if you are not a member you have to pay £20 which is not worth it. Good information but its just the ruins of a castle. Nice walk with hand sanitizer but not the best ever.
