Great bit of history of which you will require the audio (available when you buy your ticket) to understand what you are looking at. English Heritage members enter for free.

Great place and alway quite quiet. Good for kids too as it's totally open, but not much if it's wet!
Have lunch at separate tea rooms, outside the back entrance opposite the pub.

A wonderfully preserved castle along three Sussex coast. We were pleasantly surprised on the extensive ruins on the original 3rd century castle through 13th century use. A great park and towers to explore.

A fairly intact ruin set in a peaceful setting and quiet village. Great just to wander around the castle, inside and out.

It's a very interesting site to visit and take in. The audio tour compliments the ruins bringing further insight to the history and what may have taken place.

It's I nice place to relax take a breather and enjoy a few moments in wonder.

Good old Norman ruin, walk about the site and with a little imagination step back in time and consider how tough it must have been 1000 years ago.

A very impressive castle and grounds. A fair size, which we enjoyed walking around on a sunny November afternoon. Ample parking near by and no entry charge to the main open castle green.

Visited with my wife, daughter and dog. Great views of the surrounding area from the castle and grounds. Not a great deal here but very interesting to see such a historical site.
The castle is in ruins and this is made clear on the website, so cannot understand why some people give negative reviews. It is what it is. If castle ruins do not interest you then do not visit. We found it to be excellent.
The car park only cost £2 for all day but I would not imagine that you would need all day.
The entrance price is not excessive as obviously the site needs to be conserved and work was being carried out while we were there.
Definitely worth visiting whilst in the area.

Parked in the local car park for £2.00. Walked through the grounds and didn’t go inside the castle entrance. Enchanting castle with historic wall. They are currently restoring some of the wall but it doesn’t detract from the historical atmosphere. Stunning feature in a small village.

My husband and I love historic places. And decided to have a look round the castle for our third trip to Pevensey.
It is absolutely beautiful, and will definitely visit again when we come down to see my parents again.

We stopped by as we were in the area. I’m glad we did. It’s not a big place but it’s steeped in history. My 9 yr old found the place fascinating. The audio tour, which really brings the place to life, is worth getting. Good customer service and a decent little shop.

Because of the the fantastic views and history of the castle it is well worth a visit. Children will love going into the dungeons. The whole area surrounding the castle is a lovely place for a picnic with plenty of space to run around

After a lovely visit to the castle and shop, we took refreshments at the castle cafe. We unfortunately left our gifts and didn't realise until we were back in Leeds. The staff at both the café & the castle went out of their way to get the gifts back to us. We can't thank them enough for their kind gestures and can't wait for our next visit to Pevensey. Thank you!

Nice walks through fields or car park at site. The grounds are large but just grass with some benches. Good for having picnic looking at Castle. Renovations taking place on the surrounding walls. £7.20 seems a bit high as you can see most of it before entrance .

You have to look up the history of this place then try to understand exactly how important Pevensey was to us as an island nation. OK it's not an Arundel or Leeds type of castle but here you get the feeling rather a lot went on so many years ago, when standing in the middle it can take you back to a time set in another world, well worth a visit.

Pevensey lies between Hastings and Eastbourne and for much of its history it has been a port but reclamation of land and natural changes to the coastline have changed all that. It is now a sleepy but proud little East Sussex community with a wealth of history in its midst.

Pevensey Castle was built by the Romans and the main outer walls were built by them. The Normans built a castle inside this huge Roman fort. William the Conqueror is reputed to have landed his army at Pevensey and so the place had significance for the Normans.

The castle was the custodian of the port of Pevensey for centuries. It remains impressive in every way and even has recent history as it was refortified and garrisoned during the Second World War to resist the expected German invasion in 1940.

The staff (one very helpful and informed lady) can tell you everything you need to know and wandering around the ruins of the once great citadel is edifying.

If you are passing this way, enjoy your history and have some time on your hands you could find many worse ways of spending it than visiting Pevensey Castle.
